How macros are set

Macros start from a calorie target, then split by protein, fat, and carbs: protein at 1.6–2.2 g per kg of body weight, fat at 20–35 percent of calories, carbs filling the rest. The calculator returns grams for each from your inputs.

Protein is the anchor

Protein targets range from 1.6 g/kg for general health to 2.2 g/kg for muscle gain: an 80 kg person needs 128–176 g daily. Protein's satiety and muscle-preserving effects make it the macro to set first.

Fat and carbs balance

Fat covers hormones and absorption at 20–35 percent of calories; carbs fill the remaining energy. A 2,000-calorie plan at 30 percent fat is 67 g fat, leaving about 888 calories — 222 g carbs — after protein. The calculator runs the split in order.

A worked example
